3rd - 5th Elements of Art - Due May 11, 2020

Hello everyone! I hope that you are well and safe at home. Now, we are ready for the second project of the 4th semester. This project is all about the Elements of Art. I am sure at this point you were able to watch the video on BrainPOP. The video discussed some very important facts about the Elements of Art.

The Elements of Art are the building blocks that artists use to create a drawing, painting, sculpture or any visual piece being developed. What do I mean by the building blocks? When an artist has an idea about a design they will consider the color (red, orange), the type of lines (thin, thick), space (negative/positive), shapes (geometric, organic) and so on. Think of the Elements of art as the tools needed to satisfy a design.

We learned and applied some of the elements in class. In 3rd grade Art, we discussed a technique called pointillism where students composed a design with dots. The students created landscapes inspired by the artist named George Seurat. In 4th grade Art, students created a Dream-house which involved a color scheme, shapes (furniture), and layout design that entailed a line drawing. In 5th grade Art, students learned about form (food sculpture), color (contrast), shape and space.

Now for the project!

There are two parts to this project.

  • First, you are to select one of the Elements of Art and create a design/composition of your choice.

  • Second, explain in a short statement why you have selected that particular Element.

Thanks! Have fun! And, don't forget to upload your work to my email address.

6th-8th Graphic Design project - Due May 11, 2020

Hello everyone! I hope you are well and safe at home! Now we are ready for the second project of the 4th semester. The next project that you will be working on is called Graphic Design. I am sure at this point you have watched the video about Graphic Design on BrainPOP. The video explained that Graphic Design is the process of visual communication.

Let's discuss what Visual Communication is all about. Visual Communication is an art form that can be seen and admired by its viewers. Visual Communication consists largely of photography, typography, animation and much more. Photography is a powerful mode of communication. A photograph can convey a wealth of information with very little to no text is needed for the viewer to understand the underlining message. Typography is associated with the font style and sizes of printed words. Animation is the motion/movement of an image. Animation is sometimes hand-drawn and can be manipulated in unique ways that other art forms cannot achieve.

In middle school, we have learned about several art movements such as Pop art, Cubism, Surrealism, Dada, etc. The Pop art project introduced students to typography, bold colors, and expressive designs that catch the viewer attention. The pioneer of Cubism, Pablo Picasso, unique style consisted of geometric shapes and distorted faces. These projects should perk up your memory to be successful in completing the assignment below.

The Graphic Design Project!

Think about your favorite book, magazine, movie or event in your life. Create a full-page book-cover about your idea. For the project, a magazine (cut and paste) is acceptable, newspaper or you can draw the entire book-cover. `Have fun! And, don't forget to upload your work to my email address.
